Gavin is an East Anglian photographer working locally and internationally. Recent commissions and projects have been as far afield as the Algerian Sahara and the deserts, towns and oases of the Arabian Peninsula. Over a lifetime of nature watching he has taken photos in most of Western Europe and further afeild including The Falkland Islands, Cyprus, Russia, Georgia, the USA and the Niger Delta. Day to day he is most often to be found along the trails, waterways and coastlines of Norfolk and Suffolk.
Future plans include a return to the Falkand Islands and Antarctica, exploration of the forests and rivers of Poland and Ukraine and, with luck, a trip to the Canadian and Alaskan Rockies to photograph wolves, snowy owls and grizzlies.
For me, it's about creating a unique canvas from nature in combination with technology. Natural light and an unrepeatable moment recorded on film or sensor, and then presented once, and once only, in the most beautiful and natural way I can. Nobody else can compete, because nobody else was there at that moment, with that camera, pressing that button. It's a great feeling and something I'm very proud to be able to do through decades of learning my craft and living with nature.
It's most important to me to offer the same unrepeatability as the painter. I don't waste a lot of time on the distinctions between art and craft, they'll drive you mad, but I have always respected the irreplaceability and rarity of a painting, and I think it's important as a photographer producing premium work that I provide my customers with the same thing.
Unique Artworks - the ultimate in limited editions
Most photographers make their money from licensing images and selling them many times. Gavin works differently. Each image he sells is the only copy of that image that will ever be sold. Each image is printed on artist's canvas or photorag, usually in large format and hand framed with leaded glass. Each print is 1 of 1, printed with the best archival inks available, coated for posterity, discreetly hand signed and shipped insured to anywhere in the world.
It's important to give something back and to help protect the environment we all enjoy, therefore 10% of all proceeds from the work on this site will go the RSPB. My local reserve is Minsmere, and frankly, it's a wonderful place, it's my pleasure to suppot it. All work here (except work in the for sale section) is covered under the Creative Commons licensing system, see bottom of the page for details.
